Zaria Court Hotel staff donate blood to support hospitals

On November 4, 2025, the staff of Zaria Court Hotel organized a blood donation drive to support patients in various hospitals, encouraging other institutions to follow their example.

Christine Uwera, the Human Resources Director at Zaria Court Hotel, explained that the idea for the blood drive came from recognizing that blood is one of the most critical needs for many patients.

She said, “Most of Zaria Court Hotel’s activities are aimed at benefiting both Rwandans and foreigners living in the country. That is why we thought of organizing an activity that could be useful for anyone in need in a meaningful way.”

Dr. Thomas Muyombo, Director of the Blood Transfusion Department at the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RCBT-Kigali), praised the hotel for this act of generosity. He encouraged other private organizations to participate, emphasizing that donating blood saves lives.

Dr. Muyombo added that Rwanda has one of the few fully functional blood donation systems in the world, where donors give blood without expecting any payment, and the public perception of blood donation is very positive.

He reassured those concerned about donating, explaining that the process is safe and well-researched, with measures in place to ensure the donor meets health requirements. Donors must be between 18 and 60 years old, weigh at least 50 kilograms, be healthy without communicable or non-communicable diseases, and free from substances that could affect the recipient.

In 2024, Rwandans donated 84,383 units of blood, achieving a 99.72% satisfaction rate from hospitals. Out of the 127,198 blood component units required, 126,837 units were successfully provided.

Zaria Court Hotel, officially inaugurated on July 28, 2025, cost $25 million to build. The hotel features 80 rooms, restaurants, rooftop dining and bar areas, a gym, leisure spaces, business facilities, and a broadcast studio.

Additionally, the property includes a multi-purpose sports field, event spaces, markets, and large retail facilities to serve both residents and guests.
