The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in financial support for clubs participating in its continental competitions. Beginning with the 2025/26 season, each participating club will now receive $100,000 (over Rwf 143 million), a 100% increase from the previous $50,000. This move is part of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s broader mission to enhance the standards and sustainability of African club football.

This increased financial assistance is set to directly benefit leading Rwandan clubs, APR FC and Rayon Sports, as they prepare to represent the country in the upcoming continental tournaments. APR FC will compete in the prestigious CAF Champions League, while Rayon Sports will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.
CAF has been providing financial support to clubs since 2024, starting from the preliminary rounds. The doubling of this support for the 2025/26 season aims to help clubs cover essential costs such as travel, accommodation, and preparation, providing them with a stronger foundation to compete at a higher level.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the organization’s commitment, stating, “We remain committed to the development and sustainability of club football across Africa. This increase is one of many steps to ensure our clubs are better equipped to compete and grow.”

Officials from both Rayon Sports and APR FC have welcomed the news, expressing optimism about their prospects in the tournaments with the added support. The first leg of the preliminary round for these competitions is scheduled for September 19–21, 2025, with the return leg to follow from September 26–28, 2025.
CAF also indicated that further reforms are on the way, including improvements in infrastructure, prize money, and commercial rights, all aimed at transforming African football into a global force.
