Rwandan community in Senegal discusses nation’s development and cultural promotion

The Association of the Rwandan Community in Senegal (ACRS) held a general assembly in Dakar to discuss Rwanda’s development and reaffirm its commitment to contributing to the country’s progress while preserving Rwandan culture.

The meeting, held on November 8, 2025, at the Embassy of Rwanda in Dakar, brought together Rwandans living in Senegal and was attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to Senegal, Festus Bizimana.

Ambassador Bizimana emphasized the importance of unity, patriotism, and cultural pride among members of the diaspora. “Members of ACRS should be characterized by unity, love for their country, the promotion of Rwandan culture, and active participation in initiatives that drive national development,” he said.

During the meeting, members reviewed and approved updates to the association’s governing documents and discussed achievements and future plans.

Dr. Innocent Nizeyimana, Chairperson of ACRS, commended members for their strong participation in national programs such as the Kwibuka commemorations, Liberation Day, Heroes Day, and Umuganura, as well as community activities like Umuganda and sports events. He noted that these initiatives strengthen unity and connection among Rwandans abroad.

The members were also praised for their continued contributions to social welfare initiatives, including funding health insurance for vulnerable families and supporting community programs such as “Dusangire Lunch.”

Looking ahead, ACRS is organizing an upcoming cultural event on December 12, 2025, in Dakar. The event aims to showcase Rwandan culture, promote Made-in-Rwanda products, and strengthen ties between Rwanda and Senegal. It will feature performances from artists from both countries.

Ambassador Bizimana concluded by encouraging Rwandans in Senegal to remain ambassadors of their culture and to continue contributing to Rwanda’s unity and development.
