On Friday morning at 7 o’clock, a security guard was beaten by suspects involved in acts that threaten public safety, including violence and theft.
It happened in Nyakabanda Cell, Niboye Sector, Kicukiro, in an area known as Sonatubes, next to the former UTB university.
That morning, the security vehicle arrived with a young man who was allegedly caught with metal objects (sold by weight) that might have been taken from somewhere, accompanied by two other security guards in the back of the vehicle and the driver.
When the vehicle arrived, the young man was about to show them where he had taken the items. The security vehicle was immediately surrounded by other young men, led by someone who appeared to be their leader (wearing a black shirt with white beads). They took the young man from the security guards and also intimidated the guards, warning them that they would harm them if they tried to resist.
When the young men tried to remove the weapons from the vehicle, the patrolmen tried to stop them, the driver tried to flee the vehicle, the young man immediately dragged one of the patrolmen to the ground, took him under the road, and beat him there.
They used sticks to disarm him, and the young man they had arrested in the vehicle went and brought a metal hammer and used it to beat the patrolman.
Some residents who were present said they did not intervene because they were afraid the young men might also harm them, as they are known in the area for being violent. They said the suspects are often arrested and taken for rehabilitation, but once they return, they go back to their bad behavior.
They also suspect that the young man brought the security guards to the area under false pretenses, possibly so that his accomplices could rescue him.
Security authorities later followed up on the incident and began searching for those responsible to bring them to justice.
