A truck carrying building materials collided with a passenger bus in Nyamata town on Wednesday morning, leaving several people injured. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
The accident occurred around 9:00 a.m. near the Nyamata bus park along the main road to Kigali. Eyewitnesses said the truck, traveling at high speed, lost control and struck the bus as it was preparing to depart with passengers on board.
“The truck was moving too fast and hit the bus from the side. People started shouting and running everywhere,” said a local resident who witnessed the collision.
Police officers and community members quickly rushed to assist the injured, helping passengers out of the damaged vehicles. The injured were taken to Nyamata District Hospital, where medical staff confirmed that all were in stable condition and expected to recover.
Authorities suggested that brake failure on the truck might have contributed to the accident, though a full investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
The crash temporarily blocked traffic along the main road, but authorities later cleared the wreckage, and transportation resumed as normal.
Police reminded drivers to maintain safe speeds and perform regular checks on their vehicles, emphasizing that many road accidents can be prevented with proper care and adherence to traffic rules.
“Most accidents can be avoided if drivers take care of their vehicles and respect traffic rules,” a police officer said.
Residents of Nyamata praised both the police and hospital staff for their swift response and expressed hope that similar incidents can be prevented in the future.
