First Lady Jeannette Kagame, who also serves as the Chairperson of Unity Club Intwararumuri, attended the 5th General Assembly and retreat of the organization held at Intare Arena Conference on Friday.
The event brought together more than 200 members of Unity Club as the organization approaches its 30th anniversary since its founding in 1996 by Mrs. Kagame. Members discussed the progress made in promoting unity and resilience among Rwandans, the role of members in safeguarding achievements, and welcomed 20 new members into the club.
Chief Justice and Unity Club member Domitilla Mukantaganzwa emphasized the significance of the Ndi Umunyarwanda (I am Rwandan) program, noting that it is not merely a slogan but a way of life that defines the nation’s identity and responsibility.
Founded in February 1996, Unity Club brings together current and former government officials and their spouses. The organization has played a pivotal role in promoting unity, reconciliation, and the Ndi Umunyarwanda initiative.
Mrs. Kagame reaffirmed that Ndi Umunyarwanda has been instrumental in healing the wounds caused by Rwanda’s tragic past, serving as a foundation for a nation free of division and rooted in Rwandan cultural values. She highlighted the importance of instilling these values in the younger generation, stressing that those who embrace Rwandanness carry an unshakeable sense of national pride and purpose.
Today, Unity Club has 349 members and continues to promote the spirit of unity, peace, and sustainable development across the nation.
