A local non-profit organization, CECYDAR, based in Kicukiro’s Sonatube area, has launched a sponsorship program aimed at supporting children from low-income families by providing access to education and opportunities to develop their unique talents.
The program, which started on October 29, 2025, identifies children who show exceptional potential in areas such as sports, arts, music, and academics. Selected children receive support for school fees, learning materials, and training programs, giving them a chance to reach their full potential.
According to the program’s coordinator, Nimubona Patrick, the initiative goes beyond financial assistance. “We believe every child has a gift waiting to be discovered. Our mission is to ensure that poverty does not stand in the way of their dreams,” he said during an interview last week.
One of the beneficiaries, 12-year-old Kevin Ishimwe, said the sponsorship has transformed his life. “Before, I couldn’t even afford school shoes or art materials. Now I have everything I need, and I’ve even won a regional art competition,” he said with a smile.
Teachers and community members have praised the program for its impact, noting that sponsored children have shown remarkable improvement in both academic performance and extracurricular activities.
The organization has also partnered with local schools and volunteers to provide mentorship sessions and talent development workshops. These programs aim to help children build confidence, teamwork skills, and a sense of responsibility.
As the initiative continues to grow, organizers hope to reach more children across the community. They are calling on individuals and businesses to contribute through sponsorship or donations. “When we invest in a child’s potential, we invest in a brighter future for our entire community,” added Ms. Kayites, a program mentor.
CECYDAR’s sponsorship program stands as a powerful reminder that with support and guidance, every child—regardless of background—can shine and achieve greatness.
