The Nile Conference action in the Basketball Africa League Season 5 (BAL5) continues to intensify as teams battle for playoff positions and build momentum.
Kenya’s Nairobi City Thunder secured their first win of the campaign with a composed 85-76 victory over South Africa’s Made by Ball Basketball (MBB). After a challenging start to the tournament, the Thunder showcased improved execution on both ends of the court. Strong defensive organization and timely scoring helped them close out the game confidently, marking a crucial step forward in their campaign.

The day’s second game delivered one of the most competitive matchups of the tournament so far. Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli outlasted Rwanda’s APR BBC in a tightly contested 106-102 showdown. Both teams reached the 100-point mark in a game characterized by sharp shooting, lead changes, and high intensity throughout.
Al Ahli Tripoli’s consistent three-point shooting proved decisive, finishing the game with a 51.5% success rate from long range. This perimeter efficiency stretched APR’s defense and created critical scoring opportunities, particularly in the closing minutes.

A highlight of the game was a rare triple-double performance by Egypt’s Assem Marei. The veteran forward recorded 10 points, 10 assists, and posted a game-high efficiency rating of 17. His well-rounded contribution on both ends provided much-needed balance for Al Ahli in a fast-paced contest.
Despite the return of standout player Aliou Diarra, APR BBC was unable to halt their losing streak, which now extends to three consecutive games. While the team showed offensive capability, closing games remains a concern as they continue to search for their first win in the conference.
With several games still to play, the Nile Conference is shaping up to be a closely contested race. Consistent performances, tactical adjustments, and individual brilliance are setting the tone as teams push toward the playoff stage.
With more drama surely ahead, the Nile Conference will be expected to deliver elite performances, historic moments, and a wide-open race to the playoffs.
