Sherrie Silver, the internationally acclaimed Rwandan choreographer who won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography in 2018, successfully raised over 14 million Rwandan francs during her event, The Silver Gala, held on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The funds were collected through a charity auction at the event, which featured exclusive items and experiences. Among the highlights, a PSG football signed by the team’s players was purchased by Mutesi Jolly for $1,000 (approximately 1,449,500 Frw).
Other donations included $800 for a two-night stay at a hotel in Kibuye, $2,900 for a gorilla trekking trip, $1,200 for another charity initiative, $1,800 for a night at a Kiyovu hotel, and $2,000 for a high-end hotel experience. The total funds raised amounted to 14,132,625 Frw.
These donations will support more than 1,000 children enrolled in the Sherrie Silver Foundation. Additionally, the BK Foundation pledged to cover the education costs of 100 children enrolled in the foundation, whether they attend public or private schools.
Ingrid Karangwayire, CEO of the BK Foundation, highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting youth initiatives: “We continue to strive to support education, art, and the excellent intellect of the youth of Rwanda.” Sherrie Silver expressed gratitude to all donors and attendees, assuring that the funds will be used to enhance educational, health, and welfare programs for underprivileged children supported by her foundation.
The gala also celebrated local talent and fashion. Icyacumi’s fashion house was awarded $5,000, while Bwiza was named best dressed, earning $1,000. The evening featured live performances from artists including Ross Kana, Chriss Eazy, Massamba Intore, Chella from Nigeria, Vex Prince, rising star Juno Kizigenza, Butera Knowless, and Sherrie Silver Foundation performers.
Umutoni Sandrine, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Youth and Arts Development, commended Sherrie Silver for her contribution to education and the arts, acknowledging the positive impact of the event on Rwanda’s youth.
The Silver Gala was not only a night of entertainment and fashion but also a strong demonstration of the power of art, philanthropy, and community coming together for a meaningful cause.
