Rwandan league stars drafted into NBA G league after strong BAL performances

According to the New Times, APR’s Aliou Diarra and REG’s Jean Jacques Boissy are among the standout selections in the 2025 NBA G League International Draft, a major milestone following their impressive runs in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and Rwandan domestic competitions.

Diarra, a dominant center for APR, was picked first overall by the Texas Legends. His selection follows a breakout season in which he helped APR secure both the national league title and the Rwanda Cup.

In the 2025 BAL season, Diarra gained continental recognition for his defensive prowess, notably recording eight blocks in a single game and being named BAL Defensive Player of the Year for the second time. Across eight games, he averaged 17.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, and 1 steal per game.

Point guard Jean Jacques Boissy, who joined REG in 2025, was drafted fifth overall by the Memphis Hustle. The Senegalese star brought flair and consistency to the Rwandan league, notably scoring 32 points against Patriots and 37 against Orion during the regular season. He led REG to the league finals and further elevated his profile by guiding Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli to their first BAL championship title.

Boissy was arguably the standout player of the BAL 2025 campaign, earning the league’s MVP title, Best Scorer honors with 18.9 points per game, and a spot on the All-Defensive First Team. He also became the first Senegalese player to win the BAL.

Both players had recently traveled to the United States, where they joined NBA Summer League rosters, Diarra with the Milwaukee Bucks and Boissy with the Dallas Mavericks, adding momentum to their professional journeys ahead of the 2025–26 G League season.
