RwandAir halts Doha and Dubai flights amid Qatar airspace closure

RwandAir announced the suspension of its services to Doha, Qatar, in response to the Gulf nation’s decision to temporarily close its airspace.

This move comes amidst escalating concerns that the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States could destabilize regional security.

“Due to the closure of Qatar’s airspace, our flights WB300/WB303 to and from Doha on June 23 to 24 have been cancelled,” stated the airline. Citing the “evolving situation” and prioritizing “the safety of our passengers and crew,” RwandAir also confirmed the cancellation of flights to and from Dubai.

The closure of Qatar’s airspace, which includes Hamad International Airport – one of the Middle East’s busiest aviation hubs – was initiated by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs to safeguard its citizens, residents, and visitors.

This proactive measure follows a U.S. State Department warning for American citizens abroad to “exercise increased caution” after U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday, which have prompted threats of retaliation from Tehran.

Additionally, media reports have highlighted potential threats to the U.S.-run Coalition Air Operations Centre at Al-Udaid in Qatar. Qatar’s authorities have affirmed that “the security and safety of everyone on Qatari soil remains a top priority,” vowing to implement all necessary preventive and protective measures.

RwandAir has advised affected passengers that they can reschedule their tickets for a later date.
