Rwanda’s Ambassador to UNESCO, Nkulikiyimfura, has highlighted the country’s major achievements in education over the past five years. He delivered the remarks during the UNESCO General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The Ambassador said Rwanda has made strong investments to improve school infrastructure, raise education quality, and increase awareness among young people about the importance of staying in school.
“In primary and secondary schools, we have focused on providing essential learning materials, upgrading teachers’ skills, expanding school infrastructure, and introducing school feeding programs so that every child can learn and thrive,” he said.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Nkulikiyimfura explained that Rwanda’s goal is to further improve the quality of education and ensure that students gain skills needed in today’s job market. These efforts are guided by the Sustainable Development Goals set for 2030.
He also noted that the government is working to expand technology in education by supplying schools with computers, internet access, and training teachers to use digital tools in classrooms.
According to the 2024–2029 education development plan, Rwanda plans to construct more than 37,000 new classrooms and renovate over 12,000 existing ones. The project is expected to cost about 680 billion Rwandan Francs.
