During an international conference on local governance held in Dakar, Senegal (known as the Forum International sur la Démocratie Participative en Afrique – FIDEPA), Rwanda received a prestigious award recognizing significant progress in advancing good governance at the local government level.
Rwanda was honored based on the impressive strides the country has made in simplifying administrative services through the use of digital technology. The recognition also highlighted Rwanda’s strong commitment to prioritizing citizens in leadership decisions and adopting governance approaches that put communities at the center of service delivery.
Rwanda’s Ambassador to Senegal, Festus Bizimana, received the award on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government. He was presented the honor by Senegal’s Minister responsible for territorial administration, Mr. Balla Moussa Fofana.
The FIDEPA conference, where Rwanda earned this award, takes place annually and brings together leaders of local government institutions, representatives of ministries in charge of decentralized governance across African nations, governance researchers, artists, and media practitioners. They engage in dialogue on the contributions of different actors to strengthening inclusive governance and promoting the principles of democracy.
