Rwanda has been placed in Group A alongside Zambia, Nigeria, and Algeria for the 2026 African Men’s Handball Championship, scheduled to take place in Kigali from January 21 to 31, 2026.
The draw, which determined how the 16 participating nations will face each other in the 27th edition of the tournament, was held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Amahoro Stadium.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the State Minister in the Ministry of Sports, Rwego Ngarambe; the First Vice President of the African Handball Confederation (CAHB), Medhat El-Beltagy; and FERWAHAND President Twahirwa Alfred, among other officials.
As hosts of the tournament, Rwanda was placed in Group A with Zambia, Nigeria, and Algeria. Group B consists of Uganda, Gabon, Angola, and Egypt.
Group C brings together Kenya, Cameroon, Guinea, and Tunisia, while Group D is composed of Benin, Congo Brazzaville, Morocco, and Cape Verde.
Rwanda will play the opening match of the tournament against Zambia on January 21, 2026.
This will be Rwanda’s second appearance at the African Men’s Handball Championship, having last participated in the 2024 edition held in Egypt.
Egypt, the host nation at the time, won that tournament for a record ninth time, while Rwanda finished 14th out of 16 teams.
