Rwanda Coding Academy, a secondary school specializing in technology, has won the right to represent Rwanda in the ‘Junior Achievement Africa Company of the Year’ competition, set to take place in Nigeria.
The annual competition is organized by Junior Achievement Rwanda, an organization that teaches young students and youth under 25 entrepreneurship skills, work readiness, and financial management. Winners at the national level advance to the continental finals organized by Junior Achievement Africa.
Every year, Junior Achievement Rwanda hosts competitions where secondary school students showcase their knowledge in entrepreneurship, business creation, and innovative projects that address real-world problems.
This year, Rwanda Coding Academy emerged as the national winner with a project that outperformed four other competing student teams. The winning project, called Agro Haven, focuses on urban farming using landless agricultural technology, allowing crops to be cultivated without traditional farmland. This approach provides solutions to urban agriculture challenges, increases food production, and minimizes environmental impact.
Emma Hirwa, a student, explained that the idea arose from observing population growth and limited arable land, which highlighted the need for technology to enhance food production.
Rubagenga Emery, CEO of Junior Achievement Rwanda, encouraged all participants to continue learning and urged the winners to proudly represent Rwanda at the African finals while continuing to innovate.
Kevine Niyikora, another winning student, said the victory boosted their confidence, noting that they competed against many talented teams and were not sure they would win.
The winning students received $500 each and were provided with airfare to attend the African finals in Abuja, Nigeria, in December 2025.
