Rwanda beats Zimbabwe 1-0 in crucial World Cup qualifier

Rwanda secured a 1-0 victory against Zimbabwe in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, with the match played at Orlando Stadium in South Africa. The decisive goal was scored by Gilbert Mugisha just before halftime.

FERWAFA’s new president, Fabrice Shema Ngoga, traveled with the team to support them in their campaign to qualify for the World Cup. Rwanda had lost their opening match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Ahead of today’s game, President Shema urged the players to give their best effort to boost their chances of qualification.

True to their commitment, both the players and the management brought exceptional energy to the pitch, culminating in a hard-fought victory. Following the win, the locker room at Orlando Stadium was filled with joy and celebration among the players and the FERWAFA delegation.

President Fabrice Shema assured the team that their achievements would be formally recognized and celebrated soon. His message was warmly received by both the players and Rwandans nationwide, highlighting the positive impact of his leadership on the national team.

On 30 August 2025, Fabrice Shema and the new FERWAFA board were officially appointed as the leaders of the Rwanda Football Association, signaling a promising new era for Rwandan football.
