Buckingham Palace has formally notified Prince Andrew that he must surrender the lease on his Windsor residence, Royal Lodge. Following this action, Andrew will now be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
The palace confirmed that the King “has today initiated a formal process” concerning his brother, who relinquished his remaining royal titles earlier this month, including the Duke of York, amid ongoing scrutiny of his private life.
The decision comes in response to what are described as “serious lapses in judgment.” Prince Andrew continues to deny allegations made against him.
In a posthumous memoir, Virginia Giuffre repeated claims that, as a teenager, she had sexual encounters with Andrew on three occasions, which he has consistently denied.
