President Paul Kagame recently held a high-level meeting with executives from leading telecommunications and technology companies to discuss Rwanda’s participation in the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC25) in Barcelona, one of the largest global events in mobile and digital technology
During the meeting, discussions focused on Rwanda’s ongoing efforts in digital transformation, including the expansion of broadband networks, deployment of 5G technology, and investment in next-generation mobile services. President Kagame emphasized that technology and innovation are key drivers of economic growth, education, and job creation, and that Rwanda aims to be a regional hub for ICT development in Africa.
Telecom leaders presented updates on ongoing projects, such as smart city initiatives, digital infrastructure upgrades, and local tech startups, and explored opportunities for collaboration with government agencies. They also discussed how Rwandan companies could participate in MWC25 to showcase their innovations, attracting international partnerships and investment.
President Kagame encouraged stronger public-private partnerships to improve access to affordable and reliable internet across the country. He stressed that Rwanda’s participation in MWC25 is not only about showcasing technology but also about learning from global best practices, building networks with international investors, and positioning Rwanda as a leader in Africa’s digital economy
