The Rwanda National Police has announced the arrest of 11 individuals suspected of engaging in nighttime robberies targeting residents in the capital city.
The suspects were apprehended on November 4, 2025, in different sectors of Nyarugenge District following joint operations conducted by security forces in collaboration with the public.
According to the Police Spokesperson for the City of Kigali, CIP Wellaris Gahonzire, the arrests were made after community members raised concerns about a wave of muggings in their neighborhoods.
Five suspects were arrested in Muhima Sector, in Nyabugogo’s Ubucuruzi Village, where traders and commuters had reported being ambushed and robbed.
The remaining six were apprehended in Nyamirambo Sector, specifically in Rugarama Cell, Rubona Village. Police say the suspects were targeting residents passing through poorly lit areas, including the vicinity of the former cemetery.
CIP Gahonzire issued a strong warning to anyone disturbing public peace and safety.
“Rwanda National Police will not tolerate individuals who choose to disrupt the security and freedom of our citizens, especially those who ambush and rob people at night,” he said.
He urged residents to continue partnering with law enforcement by reporting criminal activity in a timely manner.
“Those involved in theft have no place to hide in this country,” he added. “They should find lawful work because crime will not pay — security agencies are always alert.”
