Women and alcohol among top threats to foreign players in Rwanda, says Rayon Sports star

Rukundo Abdul Rahman, popularly known as “Paplay,” Rayon Sports’ attacker, has admitted that women and alcohol are among the key factors affecting the performance of many foreign footballers competing in Rwanda. The Burundian international shared his opinion during a recent interview with Akeza Sport, a sports media outlet from his home country.

When asked what advice he would offer to a Burundian player considering a move to play in Rwanda, Rukundo emphasized the critical importance of maintaining focus and avoiding common distractions.

He stated. “A player must stay focused because there are many distractions in Rwanda, such as nightclubs, women, and alcohol. Once you get involved with those three things, your performance drops significantly.”

Rukundo has been with Rayon Sports for a year, having joined the club from Amagaju FC, where he was widely regarded as one of the top players in the league. When questioned about the difference between his current club and his former team, he primarily pointed to the aspect of playing time.

“At Rayon Sports, I play in the same position as the team captain, Muhire Kevin. The coach usually preferred him because they worked together back in 2019 when they reached the CAF Confederations Cup group stage,” he explained.

Despite the competition for a starting spot, Rukundo also expressed his strong ambition to become either the Player of the Year or the Top Scorer in the upcoming football season, signaling his determination to make a significant impact.
