The completion date for the renovation of Huye Stadium has finally been revealed, ending months of uncertainty about the project timeline.
On May 13, 2025, reports confirmed that Huye Stadium would undergo major renovations, including replacing the natural grass field with synthetic turf to meet international standards. The decision came after the stadium’s pitch frequently flooded during heavy rains, making it difficult for players and teams to use.
Richard Mugisha, FERWAFA Secretary General and Vice President in charge of Technical Affairs, stated that the stadium will be fully renovated by January 20, 2026. In an interview with Radio/TV10 on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, he confirmed that the new field would be ready for use by that date.
He said, “By January 20, 2026, Huye Stadium will be fully ready, and teams will be able to start playing there.”
According to Rwanda’s national construction agency, the renovation project is estimated to cost approximately 765.6 million Rwandan francs.
Huye Stadium serves as the home ground for teams including Mukura Victory Sports and Amagaju FC. These clubs currently host their league matches at Stade Kamena, which is located near Huye Stadium.
