Chief of Defence Forces of Mozambique visits Rwandan security forces in Mocímboa da Praia

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Chief of Defence Forces of Mozambique, Gen Júlio dos Santos Jane, together with Maj Gen André Rafael Mahunguane, the Commander of the Mozambican Ground Forces, visited Rwandan security forces deployed in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado Province.

They were received by Maj Gen Vincent Gatama, the Commander of the Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) operating in Mozambique, along with other senior RSF officials. They provided a general overview of the security situation in the area under Rwandan protection.

The purpose of the visit was to welcome the newly deployed Rwandan security contingent, led by Maj Gen Vincent Gatama, who replaced their counterparts that had previously been serving in Cabo Delgado.

The visit also aimed to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the armed forces of both countries.

The Chief of Defence Forces of Mozambique announced that the joint command center of the two armies will be relocated from Pemba to Mocímboa da Praia, to enhance coordination and collaboration in upcoming operations.
He urged both Rwandan and Mozambican troops to continue working closely together
