Police in Burera District, Northern Province, have arrested a young man identified as Nizeyimana Joshua for allegedly stealing the national flag from a local school.
The suspect was arrested on November 7, 2025, in Karambo Village, Kagitega Cell, Cyanika Sector in Burera District.
According to information obtained by UkweliTimes, the suspect was caught after lowering the national flag that was hoisted at GS Kagitega School. School security guards apprehended him at around 1 a.m.
The Rwanda National Police Spokesperson in the Northern Province, IP Ignace Ngirabakunzi, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect is detained at Cyanika Police Station pending further investigations.
IP Ngirabakunzi urged the public to respect and protect national symbols, emphasizing that no one should tamper with them.
