Music runs in my family: Shemi

Gibril Shema Mico commonly known as ‘Shemi’ is an ‘upcoming’ Rwandan artiste who got his breakthrough from his single ‘Peace of mind’ that he released early this year.

Although the music industry got to know about him just recently, Shemi has been singing for a while; a passion he says was inspired by his uncle Mugisha Benjamin alias ‘The Ben’ who is a famous artiste in Rwanda and around the Globe.

I started singing by imitating my uncle ‘The Ben’, my family noticed my talent and encouraged me not to stop“, Shemi remarks.

Throughout secondary school, Shemi participated in singing competitions doing covers like; last last, Kulosa, among others where he would always emerge as a winner which kept him going.

His first single titled ‘Blue cheese’ featured Maestro booming and Logan Joe received a lot of positive feedback from music lovers a thing that gave Shemi a green light in the music industry.

His latest track ‘Peace of mind’ where he sings of a girl that should give him ‘peace of mind’ and not stress, has also received massive air play on Rwandan radio stations which continues to prove that indeed the music talents runs in the family: ‘Like uncle like nephew’.

Currently, Shemi is working on a project with; Coffy and FwadTheGreat n that he says will not only be a hit in Rwanda, but also across boarders.

The talented artist is also a student at Kigali Independent University where he is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Networking.
