Rwanda has signed an agreement to include avocados among its agricultural products exported to the Chinese market.
According to a statement from the Embassy of Rwanda in China, shared via the X platform, the agreement aims to facilitate the export of Rwanda’s high-quality, naturally grown avocados to China.
The agreement was signed by Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, James Kimonyo.
China, with a population of over 1.4 billion people, already imports several Rwandan agricultural products, including coffee, tea, and chili.
This new deal is expected to boost avocado farming in Rwanda while expanding the country’s agricultural export base. It also outlines procedures for ensuring the hygiene and quality standards of avocados destined for the Chinese market.
Recent data shows that trade between Rwanda and China reached 605 million US dollars in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 22.1% increase compared to 2024.
Rwanda’s main exports to China include chili, tea, coffee, and various fruits—now joined by avocados. The total value of Rwandan exports to China rose to 157 million US dollars, a 29.6% increase, largely driven by agricultural products.
Ambassador James Kimonyo emphasized that this growing trade relationship enhances Rwanda’s value as an attractive market for Chinese investors while strengthening the country’s agriculture and creating employment opportunities.
