President Paul Kagame has arrived in Conakry, Guinea, to join his counterpart Mamadi Doumbouya for the official launch of the Simandou Iron Ore Project, described as the largest mining project of its kind in the world.
The Simandou Range, located in southern Guinea, holds one of the world’s richest and most extensive deposits of high-grade iron ore. The site contains an estimated 3 to 4 billion tons of iron ore of exceptionally high quality, making it one of the most significant untapped mineral resources globally.
According to reports, the Simandou project is expected to become fully operational by 2030, with an annual production capacity projected to exceed 120 million tons.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, President Mamadi Doumbouya, alongside other African heads of state, including President Kagame, is set to officially open the Transform Africa Summit (TAS) 2025, organized by the Smart Africa Alliance. The summit will run under the theme “Artificial Intelligence for Africa: Building Homegrown Innovation for Global Impact.”
The Transform Africa Summit brings together heads of state, government leaders, technology experts, researchers, and innovators to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can provide solutions to Africa’s most pressing challenges while driving the continent’s economic growth and digital transformation.
