Minister Dr. Biruta delivers president Kagame’s message to Angola’s João Lourenço

Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vincent Biruta, delivered a special message from President Paul Kagame to Angolan President João Lourenço, conveying Rwanda’s congratulations as Angola marked the 50th anniversary of its independence.

The message was presented on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during the official independence celebration held at Praça da República in Luanda, Angola’s capital city.

Angola gained independence in 1975 after a 13-year liberation struggle that freed the nation from Portuguese colonial rule.

Rwanda and Angola share strong bilateral relations characterized by cooperation in security, justice, and law enforcement, including agreements on crime prevention, investigations, prosecution, and extradition.

The two countries have also signed partnerships in the mining sector and agreed to a visa-free arrangement for their citizens to strengthen ties and promote easier mobility between both nations.

Furthermore, Angola has played a key role as a mediator between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in efforts to address ongoing tensions in the eastern region of the DRC under President Félix Tshisekedi.
