Kaizer Chiefs and Rwanda national team goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has successfully undergone surgery on his shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for around two months.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper, who joined Chiefs at the start of last season, has been one of the standout goalkeepers in South African football in recent years.
Before his move to Naturena, Ntwari impressed at TS Galaxy, where he made 32 appearances across all competitions, conceding 29 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets during a remarkable campaign.
Although he has not featured regularly for Kaizer Chiefs compared to his spell at Galaxy, Ntwari remains highly rated for his composure, athleticism, and consistency between the posts.
According to sources close to the club, the Rwandan international had been managing the injury for several weeks before the decision was made to proceed with surgery.
“He got the injury a while ago and has been playing with it. It became necessary to sort it out properly, so he’s now focusing on recovery,” a source revealed.
With Ntwari sidelined, Chiefs are expected to rely on Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, and other goalkeeping options as they navigate a crucial stage of the season.
Ntwari’s recovery is being closely monitored by both the Kaizer Chiefs medical team and the Rwandan Football Federation, as he remains an integral part of the Rwanda national team setup, where he serves as the first-choice goalkeeper.
