Southern Province recorded 53 deaths in three months due to road accidents

The Rwanda National Police has reported that 65 road accidents occurred in the Southern Province over the past three months, claiming the lives of 53 people. Kamonyi District accounted for the highest number of accidents and fatalities during this period.

The figures were shared during the launch of the “Turindane Tugereyo Amahoro” (Protect Each Other, Achieve Peace) road safety campaign in the Southern Province. ACP Boniface Rutikanga, spokesperson for the Rwanda National Police, said the campaign was specifically launched in Kamonyi due to the district’s high accident rate.

From August to October 2025, 65 serious accidents were reported in the Southern Province, with 17 occurring in Kamonyi. In total, 43 people sustained injuries, nine of whom were from Kamonyi, while 53 people lost their lives, including 16 residents of the district.
