The men’s national basketball team has officially entered residential training camp as preparations intensify for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers, set to take place in Tunisia from November 27 to 30.
The camp, which began on Wednesday, November 5, marks a crucial phase in Rwanda’s journey to secure a spot in the prestigious tournament. Several foreign-based players have already joined the squad, including the US-based duo Prince Tokoza Twa and Trey Sinze Twa, as well as Australia-based Kenny Manzi. They join a growing list of talents who are eager to represent the country on the international stage.
Adding to the mix of experienced and youthful players, APR’s Bruno Shema has also reported for camp, bringing his local league experience and leadership to the team.
The national side is currently under the guidance of interim head coach Yves Murenzi, who is being assisted by three former national team legends, Kenny Gasana, Aristide Mugabe, and Sunny Niyomugabo. Their combined experience and understanding of international basketball are expected to provide a strong foundation for the team’s tactical and mental preparation.
Players are residing at Delight Hotel, with daily training sessions taking place at Petit Stade in Kigali. The focus of the camp will be on strengthening teamwork, refining strategies, and building match fitness ahead of the tough competition in Tunisia.
Rwanda has been placed in Group C, where they will face Nigeria, Guinea, and host nation Tunisia, all formidable opponents with rich basketball traditions.
As the countdown to the qualifiers begins, the national team remains optimistic about its chances. With renewed energy, a mix of emerging talent and seasoned mentorship, Rwanda is determined to make a strong impression and bring pride to the nation on the continental stage.
