Renowned Rwandan music star Kitoko Bibarwa makes emotional return home after years abroad

After 12 years in the United Kingdom for studies and work, Kitoko has returned to Rwanda permanently, arriving at Kigali International Airport in Kanombe on the morning of November 9, 2025.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Kitoko shed tears of joy upon arrival.

“Please bear with me, I won’t say much because of my emotions. I’m so happy to be home. This was my first time flying RwandAir, and their service made me feel truly at home,” he said.

Kitoko, who had been living in the UK for many years, is expected to perform at Davido’s concert in Kigali on December 5, 2025.

Speaking to journalists, he described his return as a fortunate convergence of work and personal opportunity:

“This journey has brought so many things together. I’m happy to be back and I feel lucky to have these opportunities. I know people have missed me, just as I’ve missed them.”

When asked if returning was a difficult decision, Kitoko said it wasn’t, explaining that leaving Rwanda initially was harder than coming back.

“It wasn’t hard to come back; the difficult part was leaving where I grew up. Coming home is easy, leaving was the challenge, and I see that you all remember me,” he said.

Kitoko confirmed that while he may explore other work opportunities, he will continue his music career.

“I will keep making music. As for other opportunities, I’ll explore what is possible, wherever there’s potential, that’s where I’ll focus,” he said.

Regarding rumors that he returned to prepare for marriage, Kitoko said it wasn’t the primary reason, but it would be a blessing if it happened.

Kitoko, a celebrated Rwandan artist, started his music career in 2008 with hits like Ikiragi, and later moved to the UK in 2013 to pursue further studies. He last visited Rwanda in 2017 during President Kagame’s re-election campaign.

In 2022, he completed his second university degree in Politics at South Bank University, London, and continued to a third degree at London Metropolitan University.
