Rwandan forces in Mozambique join citizens in special community work

On Friday, the Rwandan Defence Forces operating in Cabo Delgado Province in northern Mozambique took part in a special community work activity alongside residents of Mocímboa da Praia.

The initiative, aimed at strengthening cooperation between RDF troops and the local population, focused on cleaning roads, clearing drainage channels, removing waste, and tidying up market areas and government office surroundings.

Residents expressed great appreciation for the effort, saying it demonstrates a strong bond between them and the Rwandan forces while helping restore a clean and safe environment after years of conflict that had left many public spaces damaged.

A resident, João Macamo, said:
“We are happy to see Rwandan soldiers helping us in these activities. They are not only here to provide security but they are our brothers working with us to rebuild our lives.”

This ongoing collaboration continues to strengthen bilateral relations between Rwanda and Mozambique. Rwandan forces have restored peace and security in several territories previously held by armed insurgents.

Mocímboa da Praia, one of the major towns liberated in 2021, has since regained stability and significant progress in rebuilding infrastructure, restoring public services, and enabling citizens to return to normal life.

The cleanliness initiative is one of many activities carried out by RDF in Mozambique, which include supporting education, healthcare, and community development — all aimed at sustaining peace and improving the well-being of the local population.
