New students embrace MKU’s practical and creative campus culture

As first-year students at Mount Kigali University (MKU) continue to settle into their first semester of 2025, many are already discovering what sets the institution apart. Early impressions highlight a blend of modern learning and a supportive campus environment that new students say makes MKU unique in Rwanda’s higher education landscape.

“I came here because MKU felt modern, but surprisingly not unwelcoming,” said Amos Iranzi, a first-year Journalism student. The university continues to build a reputation for combining international academic standards with strong community values and opportunities grounded in real-world experience.

Across programs in Health Sciences, Business, Hospitality, and Media, the emphasis on practical learning remains a central draw. Facilities like the new Kigali Paramount Hotel and the studios of Royal FM Radio give students access to professional training environments early in their studies.

“I work part-time at a call center as part of my course,” shared Bruce, a Communication student. “It’s like a classroom that never sleeps. You practice what you learn every day.”

Creativity also plays a visible role in campus life from music rehearsals and class debates to podcast projects and live media training sessions. For many students, these opportunities help build confidence and self-expression.
