Jean Pierre Kagabo leaves RBA after 22 years

Jean Pierre Kagabo, a journalist who has dedicated 22 years to the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), has officially announced his departure from the national broadcaster. Reflecting on his long career, Kagabo expressed gratitude for the experiences and memorable moments he encountered during his tenure.

Speaking to IGIHE, he traced his journey back to 2003 when he began working for ORINFOR (Office Rwandais d’Information), which later evolved into RBA in 2013, merging radio, television, and online platforms into a single national broadcaster.

Kagabo explained that he resigned after receiving another job opportunity but emphasized that journalism remains a central part of his identity. “Once a journalist, always a journalist,” he said, noting that the saying Itangazamakuru ntiwarivamo rikurimo — meaning journalism never leaves someone who has lived it passionately — resonates with him.

His career began with assignments in Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru Districts, where he worked for three years before being transferred to RBA’s headquarters in Kigali, specifically to Radio Rwanda, following the establishment of RBA in 2013.

Among the highlights of his career, Kagabo considers hosting and interviewing President Paul Kagame one of his proudest moments.

He concluded by expressing appreciation to his colleagues and the entire RBA community for their collaboration, friendship, and professional support throughout his 22 years of service.
