Aline Gahongayire launches campaign to fight diabetes after personal diagnosis

Rwandan gospel artist Aline Gahongayire has launched a campaign to raise awareness about diabetes, a disease she was recently diagnosed with and warned could lead to severe complications, including amputation.

The campaign, which began in November 2025—the month dedicated globally to diabetes awareness—coincides with World Diabetes Day on November 14.

In an interview with IGIHE, Gahongayire said, “As an artist, I want to use my voice to reach patients and the public, sharing information on understanding, preventing, and living well with diabetes.”

She explained that she will leverage her social media platforms to engage with patients and their families, while encouraging those at risk to get screened early.

The singer, known for her 25-year career in gospel music, shared that diabetes can have a profound psychological impact on patients, emphasizing the importance of conversation, support, and education.

Gahongayire received specialized training and guidance from the ‘Belle Vie’ family, founded by Dr. Léonard Nduwayo, which provided her with knowledge on managing diabetes. She was also awarded a certificate recognizing her understanding of living with and educating others about diabetes, which she will now use to support her awareness campaign.
