Madam Jeannette Kagame, founder of Unity Club Intwararumuri, reminded Rwandans that “Ubunyarwanda,” the spirit of being Rwandan, is more than a label. She explained that anyone who embodies this spirit carries dignity and integrity in everything they do.
Speaking about Rwanda’s journey of recovery and reconciliation, she said that the program “Ndi Umunyarwanda” has played a vital role in healing the wounds of the past. It has become a cornerstone for building a united country, one that values Rwandan culture, traditions, and shared principles above all.
“Whoever wears ‘Ubunyarwanda’ walks with dignity in all their actions. Let us uphold this principle, especially by teaching it to our youth,” she emphasized.
Madam Jeannette also highlighted the role of Unity Club Intwararumuri, which she founded in 1996. The club brings together government leaders, their spouses, and community members to promote unity, peace, and social cohesion. It also supports survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, helping Rwanda remember the past while building a hopeful future.
In short, being Rwandan is not just about heritage; it’s about carrying yourself with honor, respecting shared values, and committing to a unified, compassionate society.
