Kigali will host the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road World Championships from September 21st to 28th, 2025, marking the first time the global cycling event takes place in Africa.
In preparation for the championship, the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) has announced that all schools in Kigali City will remain closed throughout the week, with face-to-face learning set to resume on Monday, 29th September 2025. MINEDUC further encouraged schools to prepare online courses and assign homework so that students can continue learning from home.
In response, Mount Kigali University has confirmed that its classes will continue online during the championship period. According to a notice released by the Academic Registrar, Francis Mwangi, on September 17, 2025, all courses will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
To ensure smooth participation, the university has scheduled a training session on Saturday, 20th September 2025, where students will be guided on how to log in and follow their lectures online.
While the shift to remote learning is temporary, the university sees this as an opportunity to enhance its digital learning practices. Face-to-face teaching and learning will resume as usual on 29th September 2025.
