Rayon Sports Women edge Kampala Queens to seal CAF Champions League final spot

Rayon Sports Women FC has made history, eliminating Uganda’s Kampala Queens on penalties to secure a place in the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League – CECAFA Qualifiers.

The tightly contested semifinal match ended in a goalless draw after full-time. Rayon Sports held their nerve in the shootout, triumphing to write a new chapter for women’s football in Rwanda. This marks the first time a Rwandan women’s club has reached the final of this prestigious tournament.

The victory comes after a message of encouragement from Rayon Sports’ President, Thadeo Twagirayezu, who called the team the night before the match. “You are far from our eyes but not our hearts,” he said. “You are doing a great job, we have your back. You not only stand for Rayon Sports but for Rwanda.” He also promised a reward of over three million Rwandan francs if they reached the final.

Rayon Sports now awaits their opponent, who will be one of two teams: Kenya Police Bullets from Kenya or JKT Queens from Tanzania. The two teams will face off in their semifinal match to determine who will join Rayon Sports in the final.
