Police FC began their 2025/26 Rwanda Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Rutsiro FC on Saturday, thanks to a brace from Rwanda international Byiringiro Lague.
The forward opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, calmly finishing to give Police the early lead after a dominant start.
Despite trailing, Rutsiro remained competitive and pushed forward in search of an equalizer.
However, Police doubled their advantage in the 77th minute after being awarded a penalty.
Byiringiro stepped up and confidently converted from the spot to make it 2-0.
Rutsiro responded just three minutes later, forcing an own goal in the 80th minute to cut the deficit and spark a tense finish.
However, Police FC held firm in the closing stages to secure all three points.
The win gives Police a promising start to the new season, with Byiringiro making an early statement as one to watch in the campaign ahead.
