Rayon Sports Women FC have etched their name in Rwandan football history by qualifying for the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers, becoming the first women’s club from Rwanda to reach this stage of the continental competition.
The Kigali-based side overcame significant challenges on their journey to Kenya, the host nation of this year’s qualifiers. Prior to their departure, media reports highlighted concerns after it was confirmed the team would travel by bus rather than by plane, as in previous tournaments. Despite these logistical setbacks, Rayon Sports remained resilient and focused on their mission.
Upon arrival in Kenya on 1st September 2025, the team opened their campaign on 4th September against Ethiopian champions CBE WFC. Forward Scholastique Gikundiro delivered a standout performance, scoring one goal and providing an assist to inspire a hard-fought 2–1 victory.
In their second fixture, Rayon Sports battled to a goalless draw against Top Girls Academy of Burundi. The result was enough to secure their passage to the semi-finals, marking a historic achievement for women’s football in Rwanda.
The team’s progress has ignited pride among Rwandan fans and raised hopes for further success as they prepare to face continental heavyweights in the next round.
