Al Ahli Tripoli beats APR to clinch spot in BAL5 final

Pretoria, South Africa – June 9, 2025

Al Ahli Tripoli have advanced to the BAL5 Final after a well-earned 84–71 win over APR BBC in the semifinals at SunBet Arena in Pretoria. It will be the Libyan club’s first appearance in a Basketball Africa League final.

This was the third meeting between the two teams this season, and Al Ahli Tripoli once again came out on top, completing a clean sweep over the Rwandan champions. From the Nile Conference to the knockout stages, the Libyan side has shown strong form throughout the competition.

The game began evenly, with both teams defending well in the opening minutes. APR edged the first quarter 18–17, but Al Ahli responded in the second quarter, finding momentum through the efforts of Jean Jacques Boissy, who hit important three-pointers, and the combined offensive work of Fabian Christopher White JR and Mohamed Sadi. Al Ahli led 36–29 at halftime.

APR came back in the third quarter with more energy and briefly took the lead. However, Al Ahli Tripoli remained calm and took control again. White JR led all scorers with 23 points and made an impact on both ends of the court. He was well supported by Caleb Agada with 17 points and Mohamed Sadi with 13.

In the final quarter, Al Ahli focused on smart defense and steady execution to stay ahead. Although APR had a strong showing from Chasson Jermar Randle, they could not close the gap in the final minutes.

The result marks a significant moment for Al Ahli Tripoli, becoming the second Libyan team to reach the BAL final after Al Ahli Benghazi in 2024. It is also a notable achievement for guard Jean Jacques Boissy, who reaches his second BAL final after doing so with AS Douanes in 2023.
