Rwandan midfielder Bonheur Mugisha joined Tunisia’s Avenir Sportif de La Marsa on Friday, September 29. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder initially inked a two-year contract with Libyan first league club Al Ahli SC of Tripoli but the club terminated the contract with him for undisclosed reasons.Mugisha started his career with Heroes football academy in Mayange-Bugesera District (East).
Amavubi midfielder joined the academy at the age of 15 and after impressing the coaches, he was promoted to the senior team after two years. In 2019, during his first year in the second division, he helped Heroes finish fourth. The following season they finished second and the team was promoted to the top flight. But Heroes were relegated in the 2019/20 season after a poor run and Mugisha joined Mukura Victory Sport on loan.Bonheur Mugisha during a training session for the national U-23 team recently.
“I believe it was through the hard work that I kept moving from one step to another within the shortest time possible. Also, my coaches believed in me due to my determination,” he says.
According to Fidel Kanamugire, the president of Heroes football club, Mugisha has a lot to offer and regards him one of the most talented young defensive midfielders in the country.
“After the end of last season, he was selected to join the under 23 Amavubi national team but the team later opted out of the tournament due to a surge in coronavirus cases. Also this is when he got an opportunity to be signed by APR last week,” he say
Kanamugire believes discipline and hardwork have earned Mugisha success.“He is very confident and aggressive at the same time, something that has attracted the biggest club in the country.”
Mugisha signed a two-year contract with APR after impressing last season with the army side which finished the campaign without losing a single match.
Mugisha was initially set to sign for Stade Tunisien after the Tunisian club sent him an invite, but they never sent his flight ticket and he waited in vain.He was later contacted by Ahli Tripoli after one of his former coaches recommended him to the club which eventually showed interest.Mugisha left for Tripoli on Saturday, July 15, and went on to impress the club after just two days training with the team, hence tying him down to a two-year deal.
