On Sunday 16th, July, 2023, Rwanda’s women’s football team(She Amavubi) lost their chance to play in the Olympic games after the Uganda women football team(crested cranes) beat them 1-0 in a match played at Kigali Pele stadium in Nyamirambo.
despite each team’s effort to see through the other’s net, none was lucky.
Both the first and second half ended on a 0-0 resulting into an additional thirty minutes extra time.
Minutes into the game, Uganda’s Fazirah Ikwaput scored but the goal was ruled as on offside.
This didn’t discourage her as shortly after, she scored a goal that led her team to the second round of the 2024 Olympic game qualifiers where they(crested cranes) will be playing Cameroon.
