A breathtaking drone light show lit up the night sky above the Kigali Convention Centre on Thursday evening, marking a spectacular highlight of the Urw’intwari Liberation Concert. The event, held in honor of Rwanda’s 31st Liberation Day, drew thousands of spectators who watched in awe as hundreds of synchronized drones painted the sky with glowing images of the Rwandan flag, map, and the word “Kwibohora”—a tribute to the nation’s journey from tragedy to triumph.
Organized by Ma Africa and featuring performances from the Inyamibwa Culture Troupe, Ishyaka ry’Intore, and celebrated artist Maji Maji, the concert blended music, dance, and storytelling to honor the bravery of the Inkotanyi and the sacrifices made for Rwanda’s freedom.

The drone display, a first of its kind at the Liberation Day celebrations, symbolized Rwanda’s embrace of innovation while staying rooted in cultural pride. The crowd erupted in cheers as the drones formed intricate patterns, including traditional intore dancers and the national emblem, all choreographed to patriotic music.
“It was more than a show—it was a message of unity, resilience, and pride,” said one attendee.
The Urw’intwari concert continues to grow as a cultural landmark, inspiring young Rwandans to reflect on the past and look boldly toward the future.
