Angelina Mushimiyimana, now 65, recently concluded three decades of dedicated service as a nurse at Kacyiru District Hospital. Known affectionately in the community as “Mama w’Umutsi,” she gained a strong reputation for her skill in identifying veins and administering injections, even during periods when medical supplies were not always abundant.
Born and raised in Kacyiru, Angelina’s career extended beyond clinical duties; she became a familiar and trusted figure. She provided care to multiple generations, from children she vaccinated years ago to the grandchildren of her childhood acquaintances. Her consistent presence offered a sense of continuity and comfort within the community.

Her retirement in 2024 was marked by a ceremony attended by CIP Mutangana Evariste, the head of Kacyiru Hospital. The event served as an acknowledgment of her commitment and the respect she earned over her years of service.

Though retired, Angelina remains active, mentoring local youth and continuing to support her neighbors, embodying a spirit of ongoing community engagement in Kacyiru.
“Don’t run away from where you come from,” she advises. “The greatest impact starts at home.”
Angelina Mushimiyimana’s professional contribution and community spirit are evident in the lives she touched. Her legacy is found not just in hospital records, but in the enduring relationships and the well-being of the Kacyiru community she served.
