A growing domestic dispute within a household in Urugero Village, Kimironko Sector, Gasabo district, is causing distress in the neighborhood, raising concerns among residents and prompting action from local leaders.
The family of Mr. Jean Nkundabagenzi and Mrs. Clarisse Uwimana, once seen as harmonious, has recently been at the center of attention due to ongoing conflicts. For months, neighbors report hearing heated arguments, especially at night, with the situation increasingly affecting the couple’s three children.
“This used to be a united and joyful family,” said one neighbor, requesting anonymity. “Now, we hear shouting almost every night. The children look frightened and withdrawn.”
According to community sources, the disputes stem from financial hardship that began earlier this year. Allegations of mismanagement of household income, mistrust, and constant blame have escalated tensions.
Kalisa Garcan, the Chef of Urugero Village, confirmed the matter has been under local observation.
“We have intervened several times,” said Kalisa. “Our role as local leaders is to promote peace and unity. We advised the family to seek professional counseling and attend mediation.”
Social services have also been involved, and counseling was recommended. Despite efforts, the situation remains volatile, with teachers from nearby schools expressing concern over the emotional well-being and academic performance of the children.
“Family is the foundation of our society,” said Musasangohe Providence, Executive Secretary of Kimironko Sector. “It is painful to witness such conflict affecting not only the parents but also the children. We urge the family to choose dialogue over violence. Legal and psychological support is available to help them rebuild peace.”
A formal mediation session has been scheduled for next week, facilitated by local authorities in partnership with social workers. Leaders are also calling on civil society and faith-based organizations to offer assistance.
“We encourage any group that can offer support, whether emotional, legal, or spiritual, to step in,” added Kalisa Garcan. “The well-being of the children and the future of this family depend on our collective efforts.”
