The King of the United Kingdom, Charles III, has ordered that Andrew, the former prince, be stripped of his military honors in the British armed forces.
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was stripped of his royal title and all accompanying privileges on October 30, 2025, though he retains his title as Deputy Commander of the Royal Navy. He had already resigned from all other military duties in 2022.
The British Minister of Defense, John Healey, told the BBC that it was “a positive step, a decision made by the King that we are committed to implementing.”
Andrew was known for many years as a prince and a war hero in the British armed forces. He served in the Royal Navy for 22 years and was a helicopter pilot during the 1982 war between Britain and Argentina over the Falkland Islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
After being stripped of his royal title, he began using the name Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and lost all other privileges that came with royalty. All of this began after reports surfaced linking him to the legal case of Jeffrey Epstein, who had been accused of trafficking underage girls for sexual exploitation.
Andrew was accused by Virginia Giuffre, a key witness in the Epstein case, of sexually assaulting her.
