From hobby to hustle: How Jean De Dieu turned his passion into a photography empire

Kabayizi Jean De Dieu, a man driven by a passion for visual storytelling, has successfully built a thriving photography and videography business, Jado’s Studio Rwanda. What began as a personal endeavor to capture moments has evolved into a popular studio, amplifying his livelihood and creating opportunities for others.

The idea for Jado’s Studio first took root in 2015, when Kabayizi began taking photos at various events and capturing images of individuals. His talent and dedication quickly gained recognition, leading him to establish his own studio in 2016.

Starting with six employees, Jado’s Studio Rwanda, located in the Kicukiro modern market at Kicukiro Centre, has since grown in reputation, built on trust and quality service among its clientele. Kabayizi chose a name close to his own, “Jado’s Studio Rwanda,” to build a personal legacy for his brand.

Why venture into the studio business

Jean De Dieu explains his motivation with a profound understanding of the visual medium’s power. “You know, a picture means a thousand words,” he stated. “In today’s world, it’s better to look good so everyone can see you as a smart person. I decided to make people look good and clear through photos and videos.”

He further emphasized the lasting impact of quality visuals: “A picture is a memory which lasts a long period of time. Imagine if your memory is poor, meaning it’s not looking good and clear; you will be blaming yourself why you didn’t take a good picture. I saw that as an opportunity so I can take videos and pictures which create good memories.”

An income generating business

Jado’s Studio thrives by consistently delivering high-quality videos and pictures, which in turn attract a growing number of clients. This strong client base ensures a satisfying income for the business.

Beyond in-studio portraits, Jado’s Studio also specializes in capturing significant events, such as wedding ceremonies, where the compensation is equally rewarding.

Kabayizi Jean De Dieu harbors ambitious dreams for his studio, aiming to expand its operations further to accommodate a larger clientele.

In addition to its commercial services, Jado’s Studio also provides valuable internship opportunities for aspiring photographers and videographers, particularly students pursuing multimedia courses. Notably, Jean De Dieu himself is currently balancing his entrepreneurial endeavors with his studies in Arts and Mass Media Communication at Mount Kigali University.
