Cracking the Rwandan film industry at a young age

Producing blockbuster movies that would compete nation wide and internationally was Gahanzi Kenan’s dream.

During the pandemic(COVID-19), he produced his first movie titled ‘SORROW THE BEGINNINIG’ a short movie about a nineteen year old addict who lost his family in a car accident.

The success of ‘sorrow the beginning’ motivated Kenan to work on another movie project this time round though, investing more than he did on the former.

With over 500,000Frw, he invested in ‘1785 DEAD AND AWAKE’ the first of its kind in Rwanda film industry.

The ‘Horror Genre’ type of movie is about a happy family in their mid eighties who are haunted by a dark spirit from ancient witchcraft.

Investing in ‘1785 DEAD AND AWAKE’ was a great risk but by God’s Grace it was worth it“, Kenan said.

Kenan Gahanzi currently is the CEO of ‘Rielen studios’ a film making company in Kigali-Rwanda which he co-founded with two of his bestfriends; Joel Kamanzi and Kalisa Richie.

The 22years old says the film making industry requires patience and determination not forgetting sacrifice but once one puts their mind to it, success is guaranteed.
