UAE ambassador awards top innovators at Mount Kigali University

On June 13, 2024, at the university premises in Gatenga sector, Kicukiro District, H.E. Hazza Mohammed Falah Kharsan Alqahtani, the UAE Ambassador to Rwanda, visited the students of Mount Kigali University. The event featured dynamic discussions focused on empowering the youth through various opportunities and partnerships.

During the event, students engaged in open discussions with the Ambassador, asking questions about the opportunities available to Rwandan youth and future plans by the UAE Embassy. H.E. Hazza Alqahtani highlighted initiatives such as job opportunities in the United Arab Emirates through workforce exchange, skill and knowledge transfer, scholarships and internships, and training programs aimed at involving youth in the hospitality industry.

As part of the Youth Empowerment Initiative launched by the UAE Embassy in Rwanda, H.E. Hazza Alqahtani awarded the students who developed the best innovative project. The winning project, which focused on creating smart homes using artificial intelligence, showcased the winners’ remarkable talent and forward-thinking mindset. Additionally, the best-performing student was recognized for their achievements.

The Ambassador also presented various initiatives implemented by the UAE government to benefit the youth, including youth circles, spaces, and hubs that actively engage in numerous activities. “I know most of the Youth Empowerment initiatives I have talked about have also been implemented by the government of Rwanda, and it’s up to you, the youth, to take advantage of them,” he remarked. He concluded his speech by quoting His Highness, the Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai: “The future belongs to those who can imagine it and execute it. It’s not something you await but rather create.”

Dr. Nkechi Irechukwu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor ARA, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to His Excellency Ambassador Hazza Mohammed for visiting us and hope this yields fruitful discussions concerning youth empowerment.” She welcomed the Ambassador to give his speech.

In her closing remarks, Dr Kirabo Joyce, the former Dean of Students, emphasized, “We are very honored to have you and appreciate your choice of our university among many. We encourage you to continue introducing us to potential partners and promise to never let you down.” She also called on potential investors to support their initiatives, reinforcing the message of collaboration and growth.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between Mount Kigali University and the UAE Embassy, fostering a collaborative environment that empowers the youth and drives innovation
